"Teach me Mommy"

One night when we were getting ready for bed and about to say prayers, Autumn looked at me and said "Teach me Mommy." She has repeated this on several occasions. How can any Mom ignore such a sweet request to teach her child to pray? There is something so incredibly tender and innocent in such a request. I believe in prayer and the power of asking our Heavenly Father for things that we need. I find comfort in thanking Him for our blessings and asking Him to be near me. I have a continual hope that my children will learn to find the value in prayer and in knowing that we have a Heavenly Father that loves us so much that He wouldn't ever leave us comfortless and without a way to communicate with Him. Jonny made me smile the other day when I cut my finger and I asked him to get me a band aid. When Bruce and Jonny came down with the band aid Jonny told me that he said a prayer for me and my finger. What a sweetheart. I am amazed at the compassion Jonathan shows lately. I think it is amazing as I watch Jonathan's testimony of prayer increase and that he is able to start to think about things like praying by himself. I know he believes that when he asks his Heavenly Father will hear him. I believe that too.

Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, Uttered or unexpressed, The motion of a hidden fire That trembles in the breast...Prayer is the simplest form of speech, That infant lips can try; Prayer, the sublimest strains that reach The Majesty on high…O thou by whom we come to God, The Life, the Truth, the Way! The path of prayer thyself hast trod; Lord, teach us how to pray. (Hymns, 1985, no. 145 "Prayer is the Soul's Sincere Desire")
