The Joy of School

Jonathan has started preschool. He was very excited! And who is his teacher? Me. A friend and I decided to have a little preschool for our kids. We are following the Joy School curriculum, which is a home based preschool program for parents. We tried to get some other moms with 3 year olds to do it with us but in the end it is just the two of us. So we trade off every other week teaching on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to our cute class of two kids. Let me just say that I have loved, loved, loved doing this! I thought at first it might be a lot of work but in the end even though it is work it is so much fun to be the one that gets to watch them be so excited! And they are easily impressed so filling the time isn't tricky at all. While at first I admit I was motivated by not having to pay for preschool this year since he has two years until kindergarten, I have since discovered that it is so rewarding to put the time into being creative and having this scheduled structured time with Jonathan. So many things just make me smile like when Jonathan calls me "Teacher" while we are in class. And it makes me laugh that they raise their hands to talk but usually end up jumping up and down when they know the right answer. They just get so excited. This makes me happy and I am glad I am the one that gets to be there to see it happen. I think I am having as much fun at preschool as they are. Here are some pictures of our school year so far.

First day of school. I had to take this picture because of how excited they were. (Autumn is a part of preschool until nap time.)

Learning about our bodies.

Making bread. They started out on a bench behind the counter but by the end they were on the counter because they just had to be up and close to the entire process.

Jonathan displaying his bread. He was so proud of himself. He said "Mom, do you think Dad will be so proud of me making this all by myself?"

Angie, that is great that you are doing this with him. He is such a cutie! His aunt Janet sure is proud of him for making his own bread. that is a really cool activity. :) tell him hi for me and give him a hug for me.

Duh! How cute is this? I may have to steal some of these ideas. In the end, you are just being the best mom ever. I need to do some structured projects and times with my little one too. I think making bread is a good one. First I need to learn to make it myself. I haven't made it for so long, and even then it was in a bread machine. YUM though! OK. Now I am totally craving that. I wish that it would be make, bake, and be ready to eat in 5 minutes.

How fun - you are a great teacher! I had a great time doing Joy School with Zach last year, it was so fun to plan the activities and spend time with the kids. I'm glad you are having fun too!

I can't believe how much Jonathan looks like Bruce in that picture with the loaf of bread. Bruce had darker hair, but the eyes and forehead are just like Bruce. Looks like fun!

ahhh, now I am having regrets. Emery would love that, and we need someone in the house who can cook!
